Lift Run Play with FlipBelt

Happy Friday!!!

Ahh I am so happy its Friday, this week has been a long one with the anticipation of our move this weekend looming over my head. With all the madness going on in my life the past few weeks my workouts have been a bit all over the place. Between wanting to continue strengthening my running to wanting to work on my strength through GPP I have felt very torn. I want to just go to the gym and get my workout on but my focus has been elsewhere, thus leading to more half completed workouts and distracted selfie taking than actual lifting.

I decided that I could use a change. Thankfully this change came perfectly timed with my opportunity to review the Flip Belt! A new workout accessory always makes workouts a bit better. #amiright?

FlipBelt

As a part of my SweatPink partnership I was provided a Flip Belt free of cost in exchange for this review, however all thoughts an opinions are 100% mine!

The Flip Belt is primarily designed and used for runners. It is a belt with slits in the front so you can slid your personal items in it and not lose them or have to hold on to them while you’re running. Basically is a genius belt!

I hated running with my armband. It was hot, uncomfortable, my headphone cord went all over the place and it often left my arm feeling raw. With the FlipBelt I am able to string my headphone wire down my back and my arms are 100% free of distraction. #thankyou

Post-run & still in place!

Post-run & still in place!

I wore my FlipBelt on a few runs and seriously LOVED IT!!! I had a hard time deciding what size to order as my measurements were between two sizes but I went with the smaller size (and my pant size) and the belt fits perfectly!! there is enough stretch that it is not too snug but it doesn’t shift or slide at all when I run. Again I put my phone in the front and flipped then slid the belt so my phone was on my back side. It felt great like this for my all of my runs. I seriously have zero running complaints!!!

Typically I do not listen to music when I lift, because the gym I workout at has music in the background and because I never have anywhere to put my phone. Due to my recent workout distractions I decided to wear my FlipBelt during Tuesdays workout.

Lifting plus!

Lifting plus!

I was worried that my headphones would get in the way, or the belt would restrict my motion but it absolutely didn’t. I LOVED having the headphones going down my back and didn’t feel distracted or any discomfort the whole workout.

My last FlipBelt perk would be that it has a key clip which doubles as a Ring Holder. I don’t know about you but I hate working out with my engagement ring on. I hate getting it scratched up on the bars or weights so I take it off for each workout. Typically I put my ring in my ring box & lock it up, but last week I forgot my box at home. I found the key clip and tried it on my ring. It worked perfectly, I felt safe knowing my ring was secured on my hip and wasn’t getting wrecked on the weights.

Ring Holder #FTW

Ring Holder #FTW

Okay so to wrap it up here are my 5 favorite things about this FlipBelt.
1. Color – I didn’t mention it but how can you NOT love the hot pink? they have tons of fun colors for everyone.
2. Fit like I said I was worried about the size and I can 100% say this fits true to shorts size.
3. Key Clip – while I am sure it would be great for making sure your key doesn’t slide around it is FANTASTIC for keeping your precious ring in place
4. Running Comfort – during any distance run your FlipBelt will stay in place and be so comfortable you won’t even know its there. Plus it keeps your hands and arms free of distraction.
5. Lifting Comfort – its even great for lifting. The material moves with your body you will never feel restricted.

Have I sold you yet?? I hope so because honestly this is an amazing product that will meet your fitness needs. If you’re sold then head over to the FlipBelt website and get yours now. And because FlipBelt is just that amazing they are giving you a 33% discount on your entire order if you use the code sweat33.

Happy Running,

SuperFIT at The FIT Rockford

Saturday I was invited to a new-to-me gym in Rockford for their “SuperFIT” workout.

I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bit nervous about the workout, as I had heard about them before and they always sound seriously intense and slightly intimidating. But I am always up for a fitness challenge so off I went!

I made sure to fuel up before the workout. O2 Gold & Spark to the rescue!

I made sure to fuel up before the workout. O2 Gold & Spark to the rescue!

First the community at The FIT is amazing! I felt welcomed right away and loved that everyone started by rolling out and stretching. Then FIT owner Jared took the group through a dynamic warm up and stretching. He brought a lot of energy to the warm up and definitely engaged all our muscles getting some blood pumping.

Jared then walked us through each station. The SuperFIT workout is broken up into 15 stations where you work for 45 seconds at each station and have 30 seconds to rest & move to the next area. You then complete all 15 stations THREE times for a 75 minute workout.

The stations mostly consisted of an upper body & lower body strengthening combination or an upper body & cardio or lower body and cardio combination. I LOVE combination movements, they not only drive your HR up but engage your core and all body parts so you don’t topple over.

The workout was HARD! I didn’t realize until we started the second round that there were 3 rounds total. Imagine the shock! I also have not worked out in a group environment like that in a long time. I loveee those types of classes which challenge you to push a little harder and dig a little deeper because someone will call you out if you don’t! It definitely make the workout more fun, I found myself pushing much harder than I do otherwise and definitely felt the burn the next day!

I told Jared after the workout that I wish I knew about The FIT earlier! It is just the place that I need to help supplement my workouts. It is a fun environment with trainers who know their stuff and push you the little extra they know you need. I am sad that I will be leaving Rockford but happy to have experienced the FIT before I left!

If you live in the Rockford area and are looking for a serious workout to challenge your muscle imbalances and push your limits a little further you MUST go check out Jared & his trainers at The FIT. They offer a variety of workouts and fitness programs to meet your needs and I can personally attest to the quality of the trainers. They are top notch!

PLUS The FIT remembers the importance of supporting our community. They have SuperFIT workouts which regularly support a local charity and donate the profits from the workout to a good cause. PHENOMENAL!

Jump Start the Fall with AdvoCare

I am really excited about this post today!

I don’t know about you but I definitely have seen my fair share of indulgences this summer. Between BBQ’s, beers, sweets & sangria my food cravings have been through the roof and not in a good way.

So I decided it was time for a change. I needed to do something for my body that would make it love me again. Something that would make me feel better about what I am doing at the gym. Something that I could do with some friends to Shred The Summer Cravings, because everything with a friend is better!

I decided it was time for an AdvoCare 24 Day Challenge. I have not done a challenge since my first one which completely changed my life and fueled the fire that led me to this healthy-living world I live in now.

AdvoCare

If you haven’t heard of AdvoCare or the 24 Day Challenge head over here for more info. In short the challenge consists of two phases, the first phase is a cleanse for the first 10 days you detox your body from cravings using a fiber and herbal drink to help facilitate; the second phase is called “max phase” where you replace the cleanse drinks with a meal replacement for either breakfast or lunch. The BEST part of the challenge is you get to EAT REAL FOOD!!!! They give you guidelines on foods to avoid and portion control but you still get food and you never go hungry!!!

When I did the challenge the first time I honestly didn’t realize that the foods I was putting into my body were causing my stomach to be upset, and leading to poor digestion. When on the challenge I had more energy partially thanks to Spark but also due to eating good for me foods that are PACKED with energy. These foods really fueled my body and helped me function at an optimal level. Once I finished the challenge and would let myself eat “bad” foods I seriously could tell that my body did not digest it well.

I felt better eating better and that was important. Not to mention I lost pant sizes, showed more muscle definition and felt better about my body.

My story is not much different then the hundreds of people who have shown success with AdvoCare. I am constantly blown away by hearing success stories with the challenge and use of other AdvoCare products. My girl Becky & Lauren are just two personal friends who have had major success with AdvoCare products.

Now its your turn! I would love to help you find a leg up on your health and wellness journey this fall with the 24 Day Challenge. I cannot wait to help you through the challenge and be a support system for you (and ME)! It will be a lot of fun so if you’re interested give me a shout and let me know if I can help you in any way!!!

When you sign up I will add you to TWO private Facebook groups, one with hundreds of challengers who share recipes, success stories and motivation; the second with a smaller group of challengers to keep things more intimate and motivating!

The September challenge starts on the 2nd, don’t miss your chance to leap into the fall feeling your best ever! ready to order? head over here to place your order and get ready for sept. 2nd & serious success.

Week in Review

Hey There!!!

Remember me?? I sure hope so! Sorry for the little siesta life has been a bit crazy over here and having the energy & brain waves to blog kind of escaped me. But I am here now and have a lot to tell you about!

Last weekend we headed to Elmhurst and spent part of the afternoon at SkyZone. I received two free passes for the trampoline park so Brent and I went looking to unleash our inner children. While the park was fun, it was very busy and crowded with young children so we were more concerned with running into someone small than just being able to express our wild sides. We did spend a lot of time jumping into the foam pit! It was really fun to jump into a huge foam pit, but extremely hard to get OUT!

SkyZone SkyZone

While SkyZone wasn’t exactly our cup of tea, it would have been a lot more fun with some younger children to help bring out our childish ways! I LOVE that SkyZone is promoting a fun way to get healthy. Something I think more of our society would benefit from.

SkyZone SkyZone

Monday morning we woke up early and heading back to the suburbs to Buffalo Grove. I am very excited to tell you all that we are moving to the North Chicagoland suburbs next weekend!!!! Brent got a new job in Buffalo Grove and while I am commuting for a little while back to Rockford I will (hopefully) be transferring within my company to that area this fall.

Monday was spent in meetings with my company and then looking for an apartment to rent. We found one and like I said will be moving this coming weekend. To make things even better later this week we were notified that they got someone to take over our lease in Rockford so we won’t have two rents to pay! HORRAY!!!

Wednesday night I went to dinner with two of the new employees who started recently. It was nice to go out to dinner and talk about non-work related things. I got a bison burger and it was fab!!! There was also a wine tasting going on which if it wasn’t a Wednesday night, I would have been totally game!!

Thursday & Friday were catch up days. The past couple weeks have been a bit challenging at my office so by the end of the day I am exhausted both physically and emotionally. HENCE no blog and hardly and IG. UGH!

Saturday morning I got up early and headed to a new-to-me gym. I was invited by a friend who basically told me what was up and that I had to go. I am always up to a good challenge especially when it comes to a new workout.

Workout Essentials!

Workout Essentials!

BUT she has told me about these workouts and I was a bit nervous so I made sure to adequately prepare with my favorites Spark + O2 Gold pre workout, and Rehydrate during my workout. Definitely did the trick! full workout recap will be up later this week.

Thanks for having me Jared!

Thanks for having me Jared!

After the workout I came home a sweaty mess and got ready to head out for some errands. First up was the Beloit Farmers Market! We went once before and have been talking about returning all summer. We got there a bit late and a storm was coming in but we were able to get allll the veggies and have a good laugh.

I went up to this one farm stand and got 2 zucchinis, 1 bunch of kale and 2 shallots. When the lady calculated our bill she said “that’ll be $36.50” I said “How much?!” and she repeated “$36.50″… I shrugged and got out the cash… when I handed it to her she goes “oh my gosh, its $6.50 not 36.50!” I gladly took my extra cash back and started to feel like a complete idiot until both Brent & the lady behind us said she thought she heard the same thing. PHEW!!!

serious farmers market finds!

serious farmers market finds!

We got back to our car right before the rain started to come down, and I am glad we did. it POUREDD for the whole drive back to Rockford and during our last two stops. By the time we got home I was ready for a nap!

I ended Saturday watching a movie and being a total bum. What a marvelous Saturday night!!

Today has normal sunday chores on the docket, and some serious packing. UGH I hate packing, someone please come do it for me!

Cheers friends!

Pure Michigan Beach Workout

Its Thursday!!!

I wish I was back on the shores of Lake Michigan watching the water crash on the shores and thinking about nothing and everything. Although we didn’t go any where tropical or exotic going to Michigan’s west coast was just what this doctor ordered!

The awesome group of active vacationers!

The awesome group of active vacationers!

The whole week on vacation we were active, we did at least ONE active thing a day which made the week even more enjoyable. It was so nice to move my body while on vacation and feel like we accomplished something each day more than just going to the beach and going out to eat.

So often I feel like vacation is just eating and sleeping which is fine and dandy but you leave feeling like you gained 100 pounds and lost all the muscle you had prior. This is not to say that I didn’t over eat on vacation!

I told you all about our Sleeping Bear Adventures and the Family Reunion which were both active in different ways the other three days were active as well.

On Wednesday we all were still a bit tired from our 6 mile hike on Tuesday and slept in. I had considered going for a run or doing a workout but decided that I should give my legs a break, plus I knew we had plans to rent stand up paddle boards during the day. After we all got up and moving it was off to the beach for 2 hours of paddle boarding.

Two people is a dangerous task!

Two people is a dangerous task!

I had never been on a SUP before and was excited to give it a try! Brent and I went out on the board together for our first time out and I will tell you right now that was a mistake!!! After a while of paddling sitting down I decided I wanted to try to stand up, I got to the standing position and likely less than 5 seconds later we lost our balance and capsized. The best part was we lost our paddle and I sent Brent into the water to “fetch” it, I mean he is the man!! After the capsizing incident we decided 1 person a board.

Pure Michigan

My next two times out I did much better and was able to stay in the standing position for a longer period of time with decreased wobbling and loss of balance. Most of the time I was able to regain my balance before falling in the freezingggggg coldddd lake!

Pure Michigan

Overall SUP was super fun and challenging. I would love to try it again on a smaller warmer lake!

4 mile run & beach workout fun!

4 mile run & beach workout fun!

Thursday we woke up with plans to go for a run. My aunt and our friend joined in and we set off without a distance or speed in mind. The three of us were all at different running levels so while we were “running together” we all ran at our own pace. It was sooooo nice to run with other people! I loved knowing that two other people were there with me to push me through the next couple miles. I was in the front of the pack I stopped at each mile to mile and a half to check and see how everyone else was doing, since we didn’t have a distance in mind I didn’t want to go farther than they were willing to run.

Timer "selfies" doing our workout!

Timer “selfies” doing our workout!

We ended up running a 4 mile out and back then walked down to the beach and did this fun beach workout.

Clam Diggers = Mountain Climbers. In a high plank position brace abdominals and drive a single knee toward your chest, alternating legs each repetition.

Lighthouse Lunges = starting in a standing position cross right leg behind left leg dropping into a “curtsey”, pulling through your left leg bring your right leg forward driving into a high knee

Dolphin Push-Up = start in a downward facing dog position, brings hands closer together making a diamond shape. Perform push-up lowering head and chest towards ground, stopping 2-3inches before the sand/ground

Half Burpees = start in a high plank position jump feet towards chest and then back out to starting plank position.

Donkey Kicks = starting in a downward facing dog position, kick one leg up like your going into a handstand letting your other leg follow. Land with the leg you kicked up. Alternate each repetition.

Tipsy Seagulls = Dunking Birds. Start in standing position, holding a dumbbell in one hand or weighted bar/bag in both hands. Transfer weight on to one leg, tipping forward at your hips, allowing your other leg to kick back behind you. With a braced core drive through your heel and squeeze your glutes to push the hips forward returning to a standing position.

Air Squat = standard squat position, TOKOKTOTHJWTHSBTHSTPOB

The rest of Thursday was spent on a Dune buggy and then playing in Lake Michigan for a few more hours!

Pure Michigan

Friday we hit a local amusement park and walked all around. That counts as exercise for the day!

I have decided that active vacations might just be my favorite way to vacation. It’s a fun way to explore different areas of the town you’re visiting and a great way to stay healthy while indulging on all the vacation wonderful things!

Linking up with Amanda who is the genius allowing me to share all my vacation thoughts.

Family Reunion 2014

Happy Monday and sadly my last day of vacation. I think that each quarter you should get a week or so off work to regroup and refresh. It was SO nice to disconnect from my job and just spend the week enjoying life and having fun.

Family Reunion

Friday we packed up our cabin and headed out to Michigan Adventure, an amusement park and water park, where we spent the day riding roller coasters and water rides. I am not a roller coaster fan but I did almost all of them without completely freaking out. The water rides were fantastic and I just really enjoyed being a kid again!

Family Reunion

Family Reunion

From Michigan Adventure we headed to the camp ground where we were spending the weekend for our family reunion. My grandma’s family has not had a family reunion in years and so it was really nice to see everyone again. There were close to 80 people at the camp grounds friday night socializing and reconnecting.

Family Reunion family reunion family reunion

Friday night ended with a sweet dance party in our cabin and possibly many powdered donuts consumed.

Family Reunion

Saturday morning we got up and took a nice walk around the camp ground, my hip and back were pretty sore from the roller coasters so it felt amazing to walk out some of my kinks.

family reunion

We then headed to my aunts house for some socializing, food prepping and lunch. Brent was missing the gym so picked up my cousin and started doing some Evan Curls, with ease.

Family Reunion Family Reunion Family Reunion

Then it was time to join the party at the campground. We kayaked, talked, ate again, visited and did all those family things. Then we headed to the beach volleyball court and played a few games. It was HOT and the sand was rocky but it was so much fun. We played 3-4 games and the competition was tough!

Sunday we packed up and headed home. It was a MARVELOUS weekend filled with family and sun!

Sleeping Bear Dunes Adventure

After ditching out leaving work early Monday we made it to our vacation spot around 7:30. I was really excited to get out of the car and see my family!

Sleeping Bear Dunes

First stop was Lake Michigan for a quick trip and look at the beach then we headed up town Pentwater and played a round of mini golf. I forgot how fun mini golf can be. I am pretty sure our group of 7 laughed more than the average group does on the little mini golf course. It was a blast.

Tuesday morning we got up early and made our way up to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park. I had not been up to sleeping bear in years so it was fun to drive through old towns that I went to when I was a kid and see the dunes again.

Brent had never been to northern Michigan until this weekend so the whole experience was new for him which made it that much more fun for me! We did the big dune climb and then semi-aimlessly started a hike which we hoped lead to Lake Michigan.

Walking through thick soft sand is definitely a workout and we climbed our share of sandy hills as well. I think each time we got to the top of a big hill we hoped that the other side would be lake front, but always found more sand and dunes in front of us. whomp! whomp!

Running down a super steep dune…

After what felt like an eternity we made it to marker 27 and one more decline was the lake! The cold refreshing lake water was definitely welcomed on the hot toes and aching feet from the long hike. We played in the water, enjoyed the cool breeze and chugged some H2O before heading BACK up the dunes to find our car.

The hike back was wayyyyy more difficult, the hills seriously got steeper and because it was closer to the middle of the day the sun was shining and the sand was hot. I was happy to get back to the dune climb hill and run down to the bottom.

We were all BEAT after the close to 6 mile sandy hike.

We made our way to the scenic lookout to see the super steep dune that leads to Lake Michigan, they even have a warning sign up that if you cannot make it back up there is a fee to requiring rescuing!!
